Quayside is one of the finest Wakeboard and Waterski Centres in Europe. Located just off the M3 (J4) in Mytchett, Surrey, our privately owned sheltered lake provides some of the flattest boarding and skiing conditions around. To show the lake off to its best we have the latest Mastercraft X2 Wakeboard boat and Mastercraft Sports Star Tournament ski boat. We provide coaching to all standards from beginners right through to Pro level in a relaxed and friendly environment.
In the early 1970s, the site now known as Coleford Bridge Lake used to be referred to as Minehurst Farm and mainly comprised of neglected meadow land. The Blackwater Valley Landscape Report, issued in 1976, advised that the site was by that time already earmarked for gravel extraction.
Permission to work 73.5 acres of the site for gravel extraction was granted to Hall Aggregates between 1973 and 1976 and it was known then that the extraction would result in the creation of a lake. The extraction itself took place in the 1980s.
The area surrounding the new lake was enhanced by detailed planting plans and plant screening and it was hoped that the then owner of the site would develop it for sailing and rowing, including club house facilities.
Coleford Bridge Lake is now intensively used for recreation (Quayside Wake and Ski - wakeboarding, waterskiing and even the odd triathlon) and with an on-site bar and restaurant (The Quays, a Millers Kitchen public house) is a very popular local venue.
Many thanks to the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership for providing the information. |
